What was Rune about?

Infusion Rune occurred during the work of Ted Holsteda and Shein Gurno in the company Raven Software. Holsted, who was always fond of the Vikings, drew inspiration in the Icelandic saga of velsungs. Holsted, Gurno and four more people left Raven and founded Human Head Studios, and soon took up the development of continuation Daikatana on the engine Unreal Engine. When this project failed, the idea of the Vikings was revived, and work on Rune began with a publishing house Gathering of Developers, producing hits such as Max Payne, Mafia and Serious Sam.

Plot.

The story begins with the fact that the player in the role of Ragnar is initiated into the Order of Warriors who vowed to protect the rune stones, the magical creations of Odin, which connect the evil god Loki and prevent him from arranging ranges – the end of the world. Ragnar completed his dedication, defeating the great warrior of the Ulf, when a warrior bursts towards them and reports that Viking named Conkrac leads a raid on a allied village. Ragnar and other warriors of his villages gather on the ship to fight.

They meet Konrak’s ship, and the father of Ragnar is going to order his people to attack when the conject calls Loki and destroys the ship with lightning. The ship is drowning, everyone is dying on board, except Ragnar, who receives a message from Odin, that his time has not yet come. Saved, he salaes to a safe place in the underwater cave. Ragnar breaks through the caves teeming with monsters. In the end, he falls into the country of the dead – the possessions of his daughter Loki Hel.

Having gone through the underground world and faced with a bingositesnotongamstop.co.uk/ terrifying non -life, Ragnar recognizes the enemy’s plan: as a result of the massacre of Konrak, many outbreased souls fall into the possessions of Hel, which, in turn, gives them Loki to turn them into the army, which will conquer the world. Having broken through Hel, Ragnar is captured by the goblins and fights with their monster in the test pit. He defeats the monster and leaves the lands of goblins on a giant flying beetle. Having got out of the caves, he appears in front of Torstadt, the mountain fortress of Konrak, and with a battle breaks through it to the temple of Loki. Inside Sigurd – the right hand of Konrak – tells his owner about all the destruction and asks him to refuse to worship Loki. Conderac says that Sigurd has outlined his utility, and sends two of the transformed dishonors to kill him, and he runs away. Ragnar enters the stage and stands in front of a dying warrior. Sigurd tells Ragnar that he is the last of the blade of Odin, and the salvation of the world depends only on him, after which he dies.

Ragnar follows Konrak and gets into the country of gnomes. In the “rune” the gnomes are depicted as stunted, stocky, purple creatures. He travels to the industrial center of the country of gnomes and learns that the gnomes supply weapons and armor for new ominous armies Loki. Then one instructs Ragnar to kill the King of the Gnomes, whose testament holds the loyalty of the dwarves of Loki. The king, obviously, proclaimed himself a demigod and lives in a large temple dedicated to himself. Ragnar enters the battle with the king and uses the great car, which gives the king his strength to destroy him.

Ragnar goes deep underground and enters the lock of Loki himself. One tells Ragnar that even he will not be able to contact him while he passes through the kingdom of Loki. Ragnar finds out that it is the blood of Loki that turns the inanimate warriors of Hel into monsters from the armies of Loki. He passes through the lock and labyrinth of Loki and enters the chamber of Loki himself. Here Ragnar finally encounters Konrak. Ragnar knocks Viking-Rogi into the Loki blood river. Corrac rises from the river, degenerating into a disgusting monster. Conderac tells Ragnar that Loki’s troops invaded Midgard and destroy Odin’s rune stones to the right and left. He manages to escape a huge jump. After a fight with undead, Ragnar dives into the river and is born a powerful giant.

Loki is trying to convince Ragnar to go to his side. He refuses and goes for Konrak. He runs out of Loki’s castle and makes his way through the caves to the upper world. There he witnesses the destruction caused by the troops of Loki. Loki mocks him, but he continues to go forward. His comrades in arms will no longer recognize him and attack him. Finally Ragnar returns home, but sees that he is completely destroyed. Loki for the last time proposes to join him, and the Conkrak sends his people forward to destroy the rune stone and Ragnar. There are two possible outcomes of the game, depending on how the player does.

In canonical good ending, Ragnar defeats Konrak and his people. One speaks with Ragnar, informing him that the inhabitants of his village are safe in the hands of his servant of Braga. He tells Ragnar that he had achieved success and Ragnarok was prevented. Loki, full of bitterness and rage, makes Odin fall asleep his cave, which for a while interferes with him. Then one opens the portal in his last rune stone and orders Ragnar to go through it and join him as the first living warrior entering Asgard. Obeying, Ragnar enters the kingdom of Odin and finds the human appearance.

In a bad ending, Ragnar climbs the hill to the last rune stone and breaks it. As soon as this happens, Loki deceives Ragnara and leaves to hang him next to him.

Game process.

Ragnar is faced with various enemies: fish-bonds, goblins, dragines, gnomes and viking. As the game is playing, as in most games of this type, a large number of different weapons are accumulating.

Weapons in Rune are divided into three categories: swords, axes and maces/Hamers. Each of the three classes has five types of weapons, the number of which increases as the game passes. Each weapon has a unique “rune force”, which can be activated for a short period of time if the player has enough rune force. Shields can be equipped with the first three types of weapons of each class. Weapons of the fourth and fifth levels are two -handed and cannot be used along with shields. In addition to standard weapons, other items can be used as weapons, such as torches and severed limbs. Although high-level weapons are preferable in single-user games, in multiplayer situations, all levels are considered to some extent equal due to such balance factors as speed.
